I can't promise you a perfect garden.

But I can help you create one you'll love for the rest of your life.

But after thirty years of meeting gardeners, I've learned that the most beautiful gardens have something else. They have soul. My job is to help you discover yours.

Tired of feeling like you're failing at motherhood?

Create a simple weekly routine that gives you back your time, energy, and sanity

Inside The Calm Mama Method, I'll walk you through my 3-step framework to go from overwhelmed and running on empty to organised and actually enjoying your days.

Perhaps you've begun to think gardening just isn't for you.

  • You buy a plant because you love it.

You take it home, give it your best, and somehow it still doesn't thrive.

After a while, you begin to wonder whether you're simply "not a gardener."

  • There is that corner of the garden you keep trying to improve.

Every year you move something, add something or replace something.

And every year it still doesn't feel right.

  • You've watched the programmes, read the books and followed the advice.

The trouble is that everyone seems to tell you something different.

Instead of feeling inspired, you feel overwhelmed.

I understand that feeling because I didn't begin with confidence either.

I began with curiosity. My first potatoes were planted with a soup ladle because I didn't even own a trowel. Like many gardeners, I made mistakes, planted the wrong thing in the wrong place and wondered why everyone else seemed to know what they were doing.

Looking back, I realise that the problem wasn't me.

It was that I was trying to understand plants before I understood my garden.

Over the years, I've learned something surprising.

Most people don't need another gardening book, another television programme or another shopping trip to the garden centre. They need someone to help them see the garden they already have.

It's rather like buying a dress because it's fashionable and everyone else seems to be wearing it. You love it on the mannequin. You admire it on your friend. You take it home, put it on and somehow...it just doesn't feel like you.

There isn't anything wrong with the dress.

It's simply not right for you.

Gardens are often the same.

Every garden has its own character, its own challenges and its own possibilities.

And that's what we'll do together.

INTRODUCING...

the Mindful Garden

The best gardens aren't designed overnight. They are discovered, one thoughtful decision at a time.

This is not simply a gardening course.

It is six modules spent learning to understand your own garden.

Together we'll explore what makes your garden unique - its light, its soil, its opportunities and its challenges. I'll help you choose plants that belong there, create combinations that feel natural, and make decisions that will reward you for years to come. Along the way you'll discover something else.

That gardening isn't about getting everything right. It's about paying attention.

By the end of the course, you won't simply have a plan for your garden. You'll have become the kind of person who knows how to help it grow.

Because I don't want to teach you how to create my garden. I want to help you discover yours.

WE'LL DIVE INTO ALL THIS:

01

CONNECT: Learning to Notice

Read Your Garden

Before we plant anything, we'll learn to observe. Together we'll discover what your garden is already telling us - its light, its challenges, its hidden opportunities and its character. Because every successful garden begins with paying attention.

02

CONNECT: Understanding Place

Light, Soil & Space

Once we understand your garden, we'll begin to understand why some things thrive and others struggle. This is where guessing ends and informed decisions begin.

02

03

NURTURE: Making Places

Destinations

We'll explore my "corners" philosophy of making gardens, identify the spaces that matter most and begin creating the framework that makes your garden feel like home. Together we'll start building your personalised planting plan.

04

NURTURE: Plants as Partners

Designing with Plants

Now that we understand the places we're creating, we can choose the plants that belong there. Not because they're fashionable or everyone else is growing them, but because they suit your garden. And I'll share the easy to grow, dependable plants that I return to again and again.

04

05

FLOURISH: Learning the Language of Your Garden

Now the conversation begins.

Planting is only the introduction. This is where your garden starts talking back.

Together we'll look at what plants are telling us. Should they be deadheaded? Are they happy where they are? What are the weeds trying to tell us about the soil? What can be left alone and what needs intervention?

06

FLOURISH: Becoming the Gardener

A garden is never finished.

Together we'll look at where your garden might go next. Perhaps it's time to weave bulbs through your borders or make plans to transform another area of your garden.

Every garden is different, and so is every gardener. These are the words of people who discovered that understanding their own garden changed everything.

"She made the process feel enjoyable and rewarding from the very beginning."

I had a day’s consultation with Lou Hampden about creating our garden from scratch on a nearly one-acre hillside plot in the West Country, and it was incredibly inspiring and helpful.

Lou has a real natural feel for the land and an instinctive understanding of how a garden should sit within its surroundings. She is also a superb plantswoman, with fantastic knowledge and a real sensitivity to planting.

What I appreciated most was how she gave me the confidence to get started on what felt like quite a daunting project. Our conversations about how the garden could develop over time, along with her inspirational planting ideas, really helped shape the vision and took the fear away.

The garden is still very much a work in progress, but I am still loving every minute of creating it, which says a lot about Lou’s approach. She made the process feel enjoyable and rewarding from the very beginning.

She has also kept in touch since the consultation to check on progress, which I really appreciated. This support shows how genuinely invested she is in both the garden and the people she works with.

I would happily recommend Lou to anyone looking to create a garden that feels beautiful, thoughtful, and completely connected to its setting.

My Promise to You

I can't promise that every plant will thrive. Mine don't. Gardening has always been a conversation with nature, and nature likes to have the final word.

What I can promise is that you will never be left to figure it out alone.

Across the six modules, I'll walk beside you, helping you understand what your garden is telling you, answering your questions and guiding you through every stage of the journey.

If, after our first session, you genuinely feel that this programme isn't the right fit for you, please let me know within 48 hours and I will refund the cost of the remaining sessions, less the first session which has already been delivered.

hey there,

I'm Louise

My love of gardening began with a borrowed gardening book and a soup ladle in place of a trowel. I didn't grow up knowing the answers—I learned by observing, making mistakes and discovering that every garden has its own story to tell.

For more than thirty years I've helped create some of Britain's best-loved gardening programmes, including over 25 series of Gardeners' World. During that time I've visited hundreds of gardens and met remarkable gardeners.

They taught me something I never expected.

The most beautiful gardens are not the most perfect.

They are the ones that belong completely to the people who made them.

Because a garden is never just a collection of plants.

It is a reflection of the person who grows it.

And I would love to help you discover yours.

"We loved her ideas!"

Moving to a new house is often both exciting and stressful. Moving to a new built house with a muddy back garden is an added challenge. We are so pleased that a friend recommended Louise to help us with the transformation of the muddy area to a thriving garden.

Before the initial consultation, Louise recommended that we create a 'mood board' of gardens, plants, garden features or even interiors that inspire us. Our children were also excited about the planned garden transformation so on the day for the consultation we had five different “mood boards” as a starting point for our garden.

Louise with her extensive knowledge of plants was able to incorporate all our ideas, with all the plants being safe for our pets, a low maintenance garden, colour throughout the different seasons and a fruit and vegetable area.

After the initial consultation she shared planting ideas with photos showing the different plants and we loved her ideas. Louise sourced the plants and we all spent a lovely Saturday morning planting together. The children joined in and enjoyed learning about the new plants.

We contacted Louise again when we wanted to add more flowerbeds to our garden and was once again impressed with her planting suggestions.

Your garden is waiting.

Perhaps now is the time to begin.

You don't need to know everything about gardening before you begin.

You don't need to remember hundreds of plant names or copy someone else's border.

You simply need someone to help you understand your own garden.

Across six modules, we'll work together to create a place that reflects your life, your aspirations and your personality. Along the way, you'll gain practical knowledge, a personalised plan and, most importantly, a new way of seeing your garden.

GOT A QUESTION?

I know almost nothing about gardening. Is this course for me?

Absolutely.

In fact, it's designed for people who feel overwhelmed by conflicting advice or don't know where to begin. You don't need experience - just curiosity and a willingness to learn.

Will you tell me exactly what to plant?

I'll certainly guide you, but more importantly I'll help you understand why certain plants will thrive in your garden. My goal is not simply to give you a planting list but to help you become a gardener who can make confident decisions for years to come.

My garden is small/awkward /shady/windy/exposed. Can you still help?

Yes.

Every garden has its own character and challenges. In fact, I believe the most interesting gardens often come from working with a place rather than trying to fight against it.

What if I'm worried about getting things wrong?

Then you're exactly the sort of person I love working with.

Gardening isn't about perfection. It's about observation, patience and learning from nature. Mistakes are not failures — they're part of becoming a gardener.

What happens after the six modules?

My hope is that you'll continue creating your garden with a new understanding and enjoyment. If you'd like ongoing support, there will be opportunities to continue learning and growing with me through future mentoring and membership.
